Michael Colpo
1975 - 2011
Michael Colpo was a bright light in the lives of many. Mike's quality as a friend, brother, son, and husband was simply extraordinary and to say he will be missed is a gross understatement. He was an avid outdoorsman, a brilliant writer, and one of the most thoughtful and caring individuals we will ever know.
Mike grew up in Delaware and spent his formative years in and around Lewes with his parents, brother, and two sisters. He had a keen intellect and skipped sixth grade on his way to graduation at Cape Henlopen High School. He went on to earn an English degree from the University of Delaware. His appreciation for the written word and his adventuresome spirit led him to the University of Nevada at Reno where he completed his Masters in Literature and the Environment.
Reno proved an excellent home base for backcountry excursions far and wide and Mike found a professional home there at Patagonia. He also found a partner worthy of his quality. Mike married Liz Mosco this summer in a beautiful ceremony, surrounded by loved ones.
Mike passed away unexpectedly on December 7th at work, while running the trails near Patagonia like he often did. He was 36 years old and, although his time with us was far too short, that he spent his final moments out-of-doors, moving in the nature he loved, is fitting. Far more important than the way he died, though, is the way he lived.
These pages are to serve as a testimony to the everlasting impact Mike has made on this existence. Mike was a beloved member of so many families - please share your memories so that we all can celebrate his life together.
