The Loveliest and Finest of Men
Matt
I have only known Matt since he started working for Temple-Inland. I'm a music hound and listen to music all day, every day in my office while I'm working. Matt would always stop by to listen and guess who I had playing on my computer. We could yap on about music all day long. He recently discovered I was a Dave Matthews Band fan and went off on how great they are live (Yes, I heard the Vegas story!) and how awesome the new record was. Every day he would check in to see if I had gotten it yet. I picked it up the morning of June 6th. I immediately opened it up in my car in the parking lot and slipped it in to listen to while running errands. I had the most overwhelming urge to call Matt and say Dude, great recommendation! It is awesome, I love it! You were so right. I couldn't wait to see him on Monday and dissect my favorite tracks........needless to say, I have been listening to it non-stop in my car and can hear his laugh and see his smiling face. I know he's saying, see, I told you......Man, I miss him!!
Within a very short time you got a sense of the strength of his character. His honesty and integrity were admired by all who had the privilege to work with him. I could extol his virtues for days but you all know what I'm talking about. To say we were very fond of Matt is a gross understatement. Truth is we adored him.
When I read your stories I have to say I felt ripped off that I only got to know this small portion of him but WOW what a big impact that portion made and we are so very fortunate to have called him colleague and friend.
He was the loveliest and finest of men.
