Fashionably Late

These two words describe Court very well; always in fashion and ALWAYS late.   This posed two very large problems for me when I lived with her and Melissa in a tiny room with one closet.  The first problem was her fasion.  She had great style, which I appreciated, but to live with someone who occupied the entire closet wasn't easy.  When I moved in, she showed me the closet and told me I could only occupy about 5 inches of the hanging space.  Normally I would have argued, but I was surprised I even got that much.  On the bright side, she had great fashion advice and was never afraid to share it!

The second, more difficult problem for me was her lateness.  I might be the most punctual person on this earth, which unfortunately means I am often extremely impatient.  One night we were going to the Celtics game.  I was home and ready to go about two hours before the game.  The plan was to get dinner together and then go to the game.  Court came home from work late (about an hour before the game).  Then she tells me she is going to go to the gym quickly before we go.  At that point, I lost it and told her that I had already been waiting an hour, so she can't possibly make me wait longer while she goes to the gym.

I knew I wasn't going to completely win the debate over whether or not she went to the gym, so I offered an alternative.  I told her she should do a Tae-Bo video that I had, which would be much quicker than going to the gym.  She agreed and then went into our room to change.  She came back about 10 minutes later wearing a hat, three sweatshirts, gloves and two pairs of pants.  It was in the middle of winter and for some reason we couldn't control our heat, which was about 85 degrees.  Apparently she didn't think the video itself and the hot living room would provide sufficient perspiration!  The sight of Court in her ridiculous outfit doing Tae-Bo with Billy Blanks quickly outweighed my annoyance and frustration.  So I patiently sat on comfy couch in our rat infested apartment laughing hysterically.  Kick boxing is much more challenging when you're wearing three layers of clothes.! Needless to say, we weren't even close to being on time.

There are very few people in this world that can make you laugh so hard that your stomach muscles hurt and you're gasping for air.  That was a daily occurence when I lived with her.  Many of the Northeastern girls wear a gold ring on our thumbs in memory of Court.  When I look down at my hand there are many great memories and thoughts that pop into my head.  On days of impatience, this scene pops into my head.   Sometimes the best memories are made when you're not going according to plan. It's not always bad to be fashionably late.
