Courtney Metzger
1979 - 2000
Courtney Metzger was a loving daughter, sister and friend that always enjoyed sharing the laughter and happiness that evolved within family and friendship. Courtney grew up in Scotch Plains - Fanwood, N.J with her Mom (Jackie), Dad (Joe) and two brothers (Matt and Dan). Growing up, she played varsity soccer at Scotch Plains - Fanwood High School and was a great student. As a 21 year-old middler and Criminal Justice major at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, Courtney died on December 1, 2000 in a car accident returning from N.J. during the school’s Thanksgiving break.
Courtney's laugh is something that will never be forgotten. She had a warm sense of compassion, someone that you could talk to about anything and everything. Somehow, no matter how tough a day or hard of a time you were going through, she would always make you smile.
We hope this memorial gives the people close to Courtney a way keep her memory alive. Each Fall, there is a fundraiser in Boston during the Northeastern Women’s Soccer Alumni weekend to honor Courtney and to keep her memory alive. The money raised goes to Courtney’s hometown scholarship fund, the COURTNEY E. METZGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, which is granted to a graduating female senior at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Fanwood, N.J. who has participated in soccer during high school. The Fall fundraiser is continually a wonderful representation of how Courtney is always close to our heart and always in our thoughts. We miss you, Court!
