Remembering Uncle Chris
Bonsai Trees and James Taylor
Growing up, I always looked forward to seeing Uncle Chris when we were together as an extended family. Some of my memories included an early morning wake up call (i.e. jumping on Uncle Chris and Auntie Marcia on the couch in our living room) before grabbing donuts and then heading to the swap meet in Santa Barbara. At family meals, I always tried to sit next to Uncle Chris because he always made me laugh and feel so incredibly special as a niece. I marveled at his hobbies, especially his bonsai trees. As a rebellious teenager, I continued to look up to Uncle Chris and knew I was loved. And as a young adult, I treasured the times we both brought our guitars and he taught me cords and strummed James Taylor songs. I loved introducing my future husband to Uncle Chris and watching the kindred bond form between the two. I have missed Uncle Chris for a long time. Our family has lost a precious member and the fabric of our family has forever changed because he's no longer with us here. Even though, his life and love of life will continue to impact mine. Bonsai Trees and James Taylor songs will always bring a smile to my face and a thankfulness to Uncle Chris in my life.
