Helper of the volunteers

I recall with fondness how my acquaintance with Ann helped turn a crusty geologist into a kid again. It was not too long after arriving in Vernal and having met Ann in her professional role at Dinosaur National Monument that I became a volunteer working on dino digs with Ann, Scott, Dale and others, or perhaps giving lab preparation work a try. Ann embodied what was great about the National Park Service. She was so nuturing, kind, and patient when it came to this humble volunteer. She also was a dedicated volunteer as well. On a Saturday in the Spring of 2006 when one could have stayed about town, she joined the salt cedar elimination crew on an Earth Day project in Jones Hole. The smiles on all the faces in the picture tell it all. I do miss my good friend Ann, and this good earth will be a bit lonelier without one of its dedicated sojourners.
