Annie, my friend
It's been a few days, and now I can think of all the good times. Rosie & Loretta have probably said it best. From the day I met her in 1976 at Northland College, she was a friend forever. I remember hiking Copper Falls, the Jenny Lake Trail in the Tetons, and around Vernal. I remember playing raquetball, and playing John Denver songs. So many memories, I could take forever to recount them. I guess you could say she was a part who I became, and as such is still with me. The other stories I read here can attest to her presence. I find that the feelings I have can best be expressed thru a song I wrote some 20 years ago. I now dedicate it to Annie.
Rainbows
Chorus:
In Life there are no guarantees. We go on and hope that we success.
For life is not the growing old. Life is the rainbow, not the gold.
1. Now friends are forever, in this I do believe.
And I hope that you’ll remember the bonds that we now weave.
For memories are comforting, and longing can deceive.
And I am gonna miss you much more than you conceive.
2. Well I know we’ve had our differences but the feelings never changed.
The questions and the answers have merely rearranged.
But understanding trust can provide the cure.
It’s the number one ingredient in friendships that endure.
3. Now every time I close my eyes and see you standing there.
I’ll wonder what you’re doing, and say a little prayer.
That one day you’ll come back again, and cross the open miles.
There I can feel it, the tears replaced by smiles.
End Chorus:
And if only life had one guarantee, that friends would never have to leave.
For life is a Rainbow, end to end; and no man is an failure who has friends.
And I wish you only Rainbows, my friend.
