The Trumpet Shall Sound

...and we shall be changed

Ann usually ceded the musical talent side of the family to Tom and other dear friends who sang with Tom. However, one of my most vivid memories of Ann was when she served as a voluntary one-woman brass section for our annual Vernal community chorus rendition of Handel's Messiah. Her part came during the wonderful tenor solo called "The Trumpet Shall Sound," which I've included below in a short YouTube clip. No, it's not Ann performing, but this will give you an idea of what it was like to see a small woman step out into the middle of a very large chorus and create a large and beautiful sound. Brought tears to my eyes-- she was wonderful, but as unassuming as ever.

I am not a particularly religious person, but the Messiah is something that always moves me. It seems appropriate here to quote the words we were singing as Ann played her trumpet:

"The trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

Ann, you are missed.
