Amy Garrett
1961 - 2008
Amy was the daughter of Kathleen M. Garrett and is survived be her Father Robert (Bob), step-Mother Toni Timpy, Paul, Gretchen, Pat, Gregg, and Ruthada...and all of you who were touched by her...
A force to be reckoned with, Amy was unstoppable. I know there are stories out there from you that will be representative of just that, as well as the passion in which she lived it. So please bring them here and share them with all of us along with pictures you might have. It also looks like you can post YouTube videos and add links to this site.
Here is a link to an article about Amy's accident from the National Park Service:
When you have added your story, make sure you hit "Publish" to get it on the web-site.
This will be a work in progress by all of us. On behalf of our family, thank you in advance for your contributions and condolances.
Update:
10/2/09
Hi Everyone,
We are coming up on the year anniversary of Amy's passing (I still remember the knock on the door). It's been a rough year for all of us. Personally, it has taken almost the entire year for me to settle her affairs, her house being the final item on the list to handle.
My Dad has some things to add as far as pictures and other contributions. My brother Pat is designing and building a guitar in her name and I have a project that I have been working on that I hope to have completed by December.
Because of this we have decided to extend the memorial site for another year.
I hope you will come back to remember Amy as we continue to add to this site. This past year has been and continues to be a visceral and emotional experience which I know we will experience as we think of her now and in the future.
Thanks You......
Paul
To the Garrett Family and Kelley,
It would take a lifetime to say ALL the wonderful things there are to say about Amy,but I'm going to try and say it here in "my story" about Amy the best that I can.
I have Always felt so Very,Very,Blessed and Honored to have met Amy,been a friend, and shared so Many Wonderful memories! I've also felt very blessed and honored to have met most of her family. As I feel about my own family,Amy thought the World of her family!
I was and ALWAYS will be so Very,Very,Impressed at how Intelligent Amy was! She was Always so eager to tell and teach me about the Park Service and what she did and like Everything Amy ever did,she was Excellent at it!
I was soooo happy I was able to go visit Amy and "the kids" last October when she still lived in Little Rock. She showed me sooo many Awesome places and again, taught me sooo much! I was planning on trying to get a date set up that would work and go visit her and "the kids" at Fort Smith and hopefully get to meet Kelley and Cody-Kelley's son.
I will Never understand why God Always takes all the "Good People" such as Amy,who could and would Always teach us soooo much about life! She had such a short time with us here on earth. I do thank God though for having been blessed to meet Amy,have known her and being amongest the MANY friends that she had!
As the saying goes,"God works in mysterious ways." Amy had called me on Thursday,October 2nd,on her way to Cody's (Kelley's son) football game and we had the nicest conversation. I think about Amy every day,but we hadn't "touched base" with each other for awhile. So,it was so nice to hear her voice and get "caught up" with each other again. As other people have said, she sounded and was so happy and was telling me it was close to being a year for her and Kelley.
October 6th became a Very Sad day for everyone who had the Pure Pleasure of knowing Amy. Amy Always had and Always will have a Very,Very,Special place in my heart! I will continue to think about her every single day,and I will Always Treasure all the Wonderful memories I have!!!
My Deepest and Sincerest Sympathy
to Amy's family and Kelley,
Love Always,
Julie McKeever

I was very sad to hear the news about Amy. I only meet Amy briefly, that was on the Little Rock 9 anniversary last year. As the photographer to the Secretary of the Interior, I arrive at a park, photograph events and then gone within hours. At Amy's park, she stood out, helped me when need and became a long distance friend. We exchanged a few emails and fun photos on facebook. I would think of her often and only wished I had the chance to get to know her much better and for many years as many of you all have. Amy is a very special friend to many.
